The M1 Abrams was formally adopted in 1980 and is known for its flat surfaces, angular form, and powerful turbine engine. Designed with an upgrade-friendly structure, it has received numerous updates throughout its service life, keeping it at the forefront of modern armored warfare.
One major evolution was the M1A1HA variant equipped with an L/44 120mm smoothbore gun and enhanced armor featuring depleted uranium layers.
The M1A2 further advanced the design with new systems such as the CITV thermal imaging sight, a position and navigation system, and improved sighting equipment for the commander and driver.
Its IVIS system introduced advanced communication and information sharing between vehicles.
The M1A2 appeared in 1992 and saw its first combat deployment in 2003 during operations in Iraq.
